Low-fare Carrier Frontier Airlines Launching New Routes to Florida in Key Move to Help Reenergize the Airport
Frontier, the First New Carrier for the Airport Since the Onset of the Pandemic, Will Provide Regular Service to Miami, Tampa-St. Pete and Orlando
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that New York Stewart International Airport will be launching new air service to three Florida cities aboard Frontier Airlines starting this fall, helping to restore pre-COVID flight activity and create more travel choices for customers at the Mid-Hudson Valley airport. Frontier Airlines announced today it will be scheduling flights between New York Stewart and Miami International Airport and Tampa International Airport three times each per week, starting November 2, and flights between New York Stewart and Orlando International Airport four times a week starting October 25.
“Our airports across the state are a key part of our economic development and these new flights by Frontier Airlines are further proof that New York is open for business and building back better,” Governor Cuomo said. “The additional traffic to and from New York Stewart International Airport will greatly benefit the regional economy, while the flights give travelers from Florida another entry point into our beautiful state and all that it has to offer.”
This is the first time Frontier is providing service to and from New York Stewart, and its schedule of 10 new weekly flights will offer attractive low-fare connections for the Mid-Hudson region’s growing population of residents and visitors. The airline currently offers flights out of LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.
Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole said, “The addition of Frontier Airlines is a significant accomplishment for New York Stewart International Airport and a big win for our customers, particularly during these challenging times. We are delivering on the Port Authority’s core mission to re-energize the airport and keep the entire region moving.”
Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton said, “Frontier Airlines is the first new airline to join the airport since we launched our new incentive program. New York Stewart is a catalyst for growth in the region, and the travel and tourism industry is integral to fueling our economic recovery. We remain committed to building on our strategic plan for the airport and look forward to providing customers more travel options.”
Port Authority Aviation Director Huntley A. Lawrence said, “We’re thankful to the entire team at Frontier for making such an important commitment to New York Stewart International Airport, the residents of the Mid-Hudson Valley and everyone who comes to visit here. With this announcement, New York Stewart reaffirms its standing as an important low-cost alternative for the New York and New Jersey metropolitan region.”
Frontier Airlines Senior Director of Marketing Scott Fisher said, “We’re excited to announce service at New York Stewart International Airport with nonstop flights to three incredibly popular Florida destinations: Miami, Orlando and Tampa. Frontier is focused on ‘Low Fares Done Right,’ and by making flying more affordable and convenient it’s now easier to plan an unforgettable vacation with family or friends. We look forward to launching these new routes beginning in October and welcoming New Yorkers onboard for some Florida sun and fun.”
The Port Authority, which runs the Mid-Hudson facility, has introduced a number of initiatives to re-energize the airport, including an incentive program to attract carriers and a new marketing campaign for passengers. These initiatives come as the region prepares for return of tourism to and from the Mid-Hudson region.
The Port Authority is building on past successes through its five-point strategic plan to position SWF as a low-cost alternative for the New York and New Jersey metropolitan region and maximize its unique international capacity. The plan focuses on:
