ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. (March. 1, 2022) – For winter days when indoors is the place to be, visit Orange County, N.Y., museums to explore an eclectic array of subjects, including the Revolutionary War, harness racing and classic motorcycles.

Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame
Immerse yourself in the history of harness racing with the museum’s historic collection of more than 1,700 works of fine art; 6,000 pieces of ephemera (tickets, programs, scrapbooks, etc.); nearly 20,000 photographs; 400 jackets, caps and helmets; 75 “sulkies” (lightweight carts), 74 items of harness; and of course, plenty of trophies.

The museum’s more than 600 motorcycles include the world’s largest Indian motorcycle collection plus many choppers and bikes from movies, TV shows and Hollywood superstars! “Chopper City” features choppers and custom motorcycles from the 1960s and 1970s.

National Purple Heart Hall of Honor
This unique museum honors recipients of the Purple Heart, which is given to members of the military who are killed or wounded in combat. Highlights include interactive displays where you can follow individual recipients’ stories from when they entered the military, to their injury, treatment and recovery, or ultimate sacrifice. You can also look up a Purple Heart recipient in the museum’s ever-growing database.

Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site
Visit the nation’s first publicly owned historic site and tour the rooms where American history was made. In the critical months that Gen. George Washington spent at Newburgh, he made some of his most important contributions to shaping the American republic, including rejecting the idea of an American monarchy and preventing potential military control of the government. Explore the Museum, which houses the award-winning exhibit, Unpacked & Rediscovered: Selections from Washington’s Headquarters’ Collection. The exhibit features over 1,300 objects.
