Fox N Hare Brewing
46 Front St.
Port Jervis, N.Y. 12771
(845) 672-0100
In 2017, the arrival of Fox N Hare brewery saved a vacant, 1880s Port Jervis building from decay. The brewery has played a big role in the revival of the city’s downtown.
The now well-established brewery at 46-48 Front St. has become a popular watering hole for locals and visitors alike. Its customers rave about the burgers, drinks and service in a cozy, fun atmosphere. The interior is dominated by wooden furniture and brick walls displaying merchandise and art, all under a pressed tin ceiling. Wide roll-up windows open the interior to fresh air in pleasant weather.
The Fox N Hare social media pages declare: “Not a Beer Bar. Not a Cocktail Bar. Not a Whiskey Bar. A Brewery with great Beers, Cocktails & Whiskeys.” The owners prioritize brewing but always strive to offer patrons an elevated dining and drinking experience.
Beers there boast a strong German influence. The golden ale “Early Morning Light” features a “marriage of traditional German malts, German-descended American hops” and an American ale yeast finish. The milk stout Dark Pastures is crafted with a base of German Munich malt rather than the traditional English pale malt, plus a “healthy dose of German hops, oats and milk sugars.”
Fox N Hare’s social media also boasts “Comfort food in a comfortable space.”
Starters include Buffalo chickpeas, fried Brussel sprouts and, if you can take the heat, ghost pepper pickles. Follow that with one of their sandwiches: blackened chicken, Mexican street sausage or Fox N Hare’s signature burger: a seasoned smash patty with hickory-smoked cheddar, chipotle aioli, chipotle garlic ketchup, fried potato straws, caramelized onion and lettuce on brioche bun.
Or maybe treat yourself to a Mediterranean bowl or an ahi-ahi salad.
With vegetarian and gluten-free options, Fox N Hare is a popular, comfortable space where everyone can feel at ease.
